Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
Language is the key that unlocks the world. Without language, anyone will have an incredibly challenging life. This project is raising funds to adapt 12 literacy school units from American Sign Language (ASL) to South African Sign Language (SASL), that will be used in South African Schools for the Deaf, as well as consultations with the creator of the program. In South Africa, SASL is the language of Deaf people and the language that will open the world of the Deaf child. NID is very committed to improving English literacy amongst the Deaf community, therefore we have started developing a Literacy Resource in South African Sign Language for Teachers of Deaf Learners in early 2022. This resource, used by teachers of deaf children from grades one to three, focuses on improving literacy and vocabulary. While the main purpose of this project is to increase the English literacy of deaf learners, the primary outcome would be to provide teachers of deaf children with the knowledge and resources they need to do so. The secondary outcome is well-adapted learners who will be able to perform academically and function well socially. Our aim is that this resource become part of the curriculum in schools for the Deaf. The Department of Basic Education recommended that we should continue with the adaptation and the implementation of the project in schools for the Deaf and present them with the results and statistics to prove the success of the resource. Please help us by making a financial contribution towards this project or by simply sharing the following link or your social media at no extra cost: https://different.org/projects/nid-national-institute-for-the-deaf-npc/literacy-resource-for-teachers-of-deaf-learners/
