Help Africa Food for Thought with 1 volunteer for Repairing Electricity in an OVC home
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
One of the families which we have supported for some time is facing a serious challenge. Two young men who have grown up in our program are now studying at tertiary level. Both parents died several years ago and the extended family has not been supportive at all, so these boys are totally reliant on AFFT for food and assistance in other areas, when we receive donations and help. The two students are currently studying for exams, but their home, where for some time only one plug was working in the entire house, now has no electricity at all; the lone, overworked plug point having burned out. Their fridge, donated last year, about which they were so excited, and their table-top stove plates, can obviously not be used and they have no lights by which to study. Their home is cold and dark and certainly not conducive to a feeling of well-being and motivation. We asked them to get a quote from a local source in Kagiso, to have the house properly wired, but of course these young men do not have the money to pay for the job. The quote was a bit over five thousand rand. It may well be possible to restore electricity to their portion of the house for a smaller amount if it can be done in a safe way. Is there perhaps an electrical contractor who would be willing to look into assisting with this situation, or a company, sponsor or group who you feel would be amenable to considering helping this family?
