More about The Sweethearts Foundation
Since Valentine’s Day in 2013, The Sweethearts Foundation has given more than 600 South Africans something many of us take for granted: the freedom to move. More than 600 bespoke wheelchairs. More than 600 lives changed. More than 600 families who no longer have to carry a child everywhere they go or watch a loved one sit on the sidelines. We believe two things deeply: our planet deserves better, and mobility is a basic human right. A wheelchair is not a luxury. It is access to school, work, dignity and independence. Across South Africa, individuals, schools and organisations collect bread tags, plastic bottle tops, Aluminium Soda Tabs and Take Away Lids. Small items, easy to discard, but powerful when saved together. These materials are responsibly recycled, and the proceeds are used to manufacture customised wheelchairs for beneficiaries at the top of our waiting list.
