Help Johannesburg Dream Center NPC with 5 volunteers for basic financial literacy training
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
Johannesburg Dream Center is looking for volunteers to facilitate a **practical financial skills workshop** for unemployed and under-resourced adults working towards employment and greater financial independence. For someone entering employment for the first time, understanding how to manage their income can be just as important as finding the job itself. We would love professionals to share practical, everyday financial knowledge in a friendly and easy-to-understand way. Possible workshop topics include: * Creating a realistic household budget * Understanding needs versus wants * Managing a limited income * Building an emergency fund * Saving in small, achievable amounts * Understanding bank accounts and everyday bank charges * Using digital and mobile banking safely * Protecting yourself from banking scams and fraud * Understanding credit, interest and debt * The risks of borrowing from informal or high-cost lenders * Understanding a payslip * Planning for monthly debit orders and expenses * Financial planning when starting your first job * Setting achievable financial goals * Basic money management for someone starting a small business The workshop should focus on **practical financial education rather than individual financial advice** and should be suitable for people with different levels of financial knowledge. Volunteers do not necessarily need to be financial advisers. People working in banking, finance, accounting, customer service, administration, business or related fields may have valuable knowledge to share. Corporate teams are also welcome to work together to design and facilitate a session. Our aim is simple: to help beneficiaries not only earn an income, but feel more confident managing it. **A few hours of your professional knowledge could help someone build healthier financial habits for a lifetime.**

Stay safe
- 1. Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
- 2. When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
- 3. Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
- 4. Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
- 5. If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
- 6. Avoid wearing expensive jewellery: it could get damaged, lost or stolen.
- 7. Ask, ask, ask! If you’re worried about something or concerned about your safety in a certain situation, ask the person in charge.
