Help Johannesburg Dream Center NPC with 7 volunteers for creating a practical Job Search Guide
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
Johannesburg Dream Center supports unemployed people with CV creation, job searching, interview preparation and work-readiness support. We are looking for skilled volunteers to help us create a simple, practical **First-Time Job Seeker Guide** that we can continue using with our beneficiaries. The guide should be written for someone who may have little or no previous experience applying for formal employment and should explain the job-search process in an easy-to-follow way. We would love the guide to cover topics such as: * Where to look for legitimate job opportunities * How to search and apply for jobs online * How to create a professional email address * What information should be included in a CV * How to adapt a CV for different opportunities * How to write a simple application email * What documents a job seeker should keep ready * How to prepare for an interview * What to wear and how to present yourself * Following up after an application or interview * Using LinkedIn and online job platforms * How to identify job scams * Basic workplace expectations when starting your first job * A practical job-application checklist or tracker We are not looking for a complicated manual. We want something **clear, practical, visually easy to use and relevant to South African job seekers**. Professionals working in HR, recruitment, management, administration, marketing, communications, banking or other corporate environments could all contribute valuable knowledge to this project. The finished guide will become a reusable resource that Johannesburg Dream Center can use to support many job seekers in future. **Use your workplace experience to help someone take their first step into employment.**

Helpful tips
Stay safe
- 1. Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
- 2. When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
- 3. Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
- 4. Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
- 5. If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
- 6. Avoid wearing expensive jewellery: it could get damaged, lost or stolen.
- 7. Ask, ask, ask! If you’re worried about something or concerned about your safety in a certain situation, ask the person in charge.
