Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
Incarcerated women—especially those imprisoned after acting in self-defence during GBV-related incidents—are often silenced twice: first by abuse, then by the system. As August is Women;s Month we will pilot an ongoing GBVF - Round Table discussion programme that will be implemented across 6 female correctional centres across the Western Cape as a pilot programme.. The aim is to provide hope, upliftment and restoration. Gently used inspirational books and magazines will serve as a vital tool for ongoing healing and reflection long after our roundtable events have ended. We do not believe in one-off, “tick box” interventions — our goal is sustained engagement and meaningful impact. By leaving behind uplifting reading material, we help create safe moments of escape, inspiration, and growth within the harshness of the correctional environment. These books allow the women to continue the conversations sparked during the sessions, encouraging them to reflect on their journeys, explore new perspectives, and hold onto hope as they rebuild their sense of identity and purpose.
Helpful tips
Stay safe
- 1. Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
- 2. When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
- 3. Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
- 4. Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
- 5. If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
- 6. Avoid wearing expensive jewellery: it could get damaged, lost or stolen.
- 7. Ask, ask, ask! If you’re worried about something or concerned about your safety in a certain situation, ask the person in charge.
