Help Book World with 67 volunteers for Grade 8 learners needing financial literacy skills
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
We have 67 grade 8 learners now Book World members who participated in 67 minutes Poetry Slam during the 2025 International Mandela Day. They wrote poems and presented them on one of small stage of performance. Currently their written poems are being compiled into an anthology to be launched on 18 July 2026 in celebration of Mandela Day. On the day we will also be launching an exist strategy of our one year project- Literacy Lifestyle (19 June 2025 - 19 June 2026). Our exist strategy is called Project 2 Million. This is a Fundraising project through Mandela In Young Voices, an anthology to be published in 2026 written by 67 learners from our partnering schools. The book will be used as a tool to raise funds. By 2031 the book proceeds will avail R 2 million as royalty fee toward education fund for learners (authors) who complete matric. The money will be paid directly into the bank accounts of participating learners. BANK ACCOUNTS In continuing our impact through Literacy Lifestyle Project, we hosted a financial literacy activation for our members at Standard Bank Rustenburg branch back on the 16 March 2026. Together with SB employees we taught children saving through tangible money in Lego banks and parents matching their savings. The activation rundown included: 1. Literacy Promotion 2. Financial Literacy Importance 3. Account Opening 4. Importance of Saving 5. Handover of Standard Bank Lego Money Box and LU Plushie Given that that Project 2 Million is a 5 year long project and we have just introduced children to saving just R4 a day from their pocket money, we need financial literacy mentors who will help grow the seed we have planted. The Financial Literacy Mentors will be adding to our structure called Body of Knowledge. Voluteers will be allocated to a learner who will gain access to the volunteer for financial literacy mentorship programme for 5 years.
