BASC Faculty Student Committee

Transparency. Accountability. Inclusivity. Excellence.

BASC's vision and mission

BASC's vision for 2021 is to create a Student Committee representative of the needs of our faculty through fostering inclusivity, approachability and an aspiration to academic excellence. We envision a faculty where students of all races, sexual orientations and backgrounds are represented and taken into account, while at the same time being a Committee that is willing to learn and grow during our leadership term. Our vision is to foster a sense of community and unity within the Faculty and to create a Committee that provides guidance and leadership to students, one that reforms the visibility and standing of the FASS on campus.

We will realize our Vision by hosting events that are relevant to students and which deals with topics that urgently need to be addressed. We will promote academic integrity and encourage academic excellence by providing guidance and advice to students and creating channels that allow students access to this guidance. We will create an approachable and accessible Student Committee in order to fulfil our goals for this tenure by frequently having open events, creating representational structures for students, and by ensuring that we are visible on campus, both in a virtual and physical manner.

What are we currently doing?

Legacy Project: The main objective for this project is to ensure that the needs of people in surrounding communities are met and that a lasting notable impact is made. The main goals of the project are; to improve literacy and mathematical skills and learning attainment of primary and high school learners by tutoring in these facets and to increase access to different types of materials which will assist communities in improving their social challenges. The project will host weekly visits to the Legacy Centre in Kayamandi whereby tutoring activities will take place as well as creative activities with learners and community workers. The projected times are from 16h00 to 18h00 and 2-4 volunteers will be needed for the weekly sessions.
