What are we currently doing?

Combat Cancer Collectively (CCC):  This project is two-faceted. Firstly, it involves an awareness campaign that is focused within a two-week period. Students share stories on the rooiplein, spread posters around campus and end with a joint fundraiser event.  Secondly, an enquiry as to which projects support cancer patients in the area, as well as student who have been diagnosed. The money made with the fundraiser event will accordingly be donated to these institutions.

How to Help Pamphlet: The idea behind this project is that several first years come to SU with the desire to make a difference, but often end up being overwhelmed by university life.  The aim is to print a pamphlet containing all the relevant information that will make it easier for all students to help the surrounding community. This includes summaries of existing and future initiatives and of what they entail, the contact details of the leaders of these projects and also how anyone can contribute to the cause. If it seems that there is a general consensus that such a project would be beneficial, then the pamphlet must be drafted and printed before the start of the next academic year, in order for the pamphlets to be distributed as soon as possible. A draft of this booklet/pamphlet has already been drafted and sent to our residence head for approval.

The Way Forward: The idea is to launch an interconnected platform that connects interested businesses and students. The aim is to help students who have recently graduated find employment opportunities. A platform such as the D6 communicator could be used, where interested businesses advertise their openings and students that are interested apply. This is to provide students with contact persons and to ultimately avoid unemployment. The help of Stellenbosch alumni, especially those who are in positions to employ students, will be heavily relied upon.
