The Education Student Committee's vision and mission

The mission of the Education Student Committee (ESC) is to cultivate pride in all students and to obtain an environment of academic success through setting an example of professional conduct and academic excellence. It is the vision of the ESC to serve the academic, social and professional interest of all students through accessible, accountable and innovative leadership.

The ESC aims to promote and expand an academic culture among students. The ESC strives to keep students informed of developments regarding their professional training through facilitating the flow of information between students, lecturers, management bodies, the university and wider contexts. The ESC aims to be transparent and approachable in handling student affairs and grievances with tact and honesty. Problems directly impacting will be identified, addressed and solved to the best of our ability.

What are we currently doing?

(1) Beach Clean-Up: On the 27th of March, the Beyond Education students will be volunteering, by cleaning up Strand beach. This will be an opportunity for students to ensure that the beaches are cleaner and safer for everyone. Additionally, it is important that we help protect our ocean ecosystem

(2) Stationery Drive: This project is currently in motion, where 14 students have dedicated themselves to partake in collecting/making a stationery pack. We know that stationery is always a problem throughout the year and is costly thus we would like to help a local primary school by donating stationery packs to disadvantaged learners. Collection from: 17 March – 7 May.

(3) Middelvlei Farms

(4) Inspiring Matriculants:  - TBC - A school will be selected in an underprivileged community, where the matric pass rate is very low. Students will have the opportunity to engage with matric learners to encourage them for their final school year. They will also share study tips with matric learners.

(5) Durbanville Children’s Home Outreach: Students will have the opportunity to spend time with the children in the Children’s Home. Durbanville Children’s Home is one of the oldest children’s homes in South Africa, dating back to 1883. As a registered institution of care, they are currently tasked with looking after 144 children who were placed there by court orders.  The Home is situated in the northern suburbs of Cape Town and the intake of children falls within a 100 km radius of Durbanville, which includes farms, informal settlements, squatter camps and towns. The Durbanville Children’s Home is presently caring for 144 children between the ages of 2-18 years.
