Huis Ten Bosch

Unity. Respect. Open-mindedness. Compassion.

Huis ten Bosch's vision & mission:

Transformation and Transparency. Huistenbosch's prompts the House Committee to actualize an impact on our community. The year 2021 will bring great challenges but there will also be exciting new opportunities as we will all, hopefully, be returning to campus. Not only does the COVID-19 pandemic hold many challenges, but we will also be moving back into our original Huis ten Bosch building and welcoming 96 first years. With 2/3 of HtB now consisting of newcomers, this gives us an opportunity to reflect and revise Huis ten Bosch to continuously guide us towards an HtB community of unity, respect, open-mindedness, and compassion.

What are we currently doing?

Stationery Drive: Any new or gently used stationary (especially pencils and colouring pencils or crayons), exam pads, writing books, pencil cases or even second-hand reading books are donated by students and collected by the respective Social impact house committee members of respective communities. (The idea is to include the cluster or even the wider student community.) The stationery is then distributed to schools in the Stellenbosch area.

Jars of Hope: During Welcoming our newcomers made jars of hope (basic dry ingredients for a soup in a jar) and we donated it to Food In Action Stellenbosch.

Sisterhood box: This is an initiative where Huis ten Boschers can donate necessities to other Huis ten Boschers.

Dignity Period campaign: Collaboration between HtB, SLSJ and various other communities where the aim is to raise awareness on menstrual health and collect sanitary ware to donate to the Stellenbosch Safe House, SU residences, PSOs and SU Social Work office.
