Unity. Dream. Respect. Individuality. Commitment.

Nemesia's vision & mission:

Nemesia's vision is to create an environment where all residents feel safe, appreciated, and celebrated. As a diverse group of united and committed individuals, we seek to authentically appreciate and celebrate our differences within a safe residence environment.

What are we currently doing?

A21: Anti-Human trafficking Webinar (Reflection): This event was on @nemesia_residence Instagram page at 17:00 on 3 December 2020. This was chosen to raise awareness and educate residents. It was hosted via Instagram as online events are a great tool to make use of during Covid-19. This is also a cause that people can get involved in through creating awareness via online platforms and by taking individual action. The interview is still available for viewing on the Instagram page and has been viewed by over 380 people. At the event, modern-day slavery was discussed as the fastest growing crime in the world as well as what we can do to help “abolish slavery everywhere forever”. During the interview, statistics were discussed where residents were informed that over 40 million people are in slavery across the globe and of these people, less than 1% are ever freed. A21, through their work, seeks to reduce vulnerability, assist victims, and restore survivors. To make a difference you can do the following:

1) Educate yourself (you can make use of the materials on their website https://www.a21.org/)
2) Save the hotline number: 0800222777 and if anything seems suspicious, report it!
3) Take one small step to make a difference whether it be informing a friend, sharing a post on social media or making a financial contribution.
Together we can abolish slavery everywhere forever.

Sandwich Drive: The Nemesia Sandwich drive is held biweekly in Nemesia. Students gather in the communal areas of the residence to make sandwiches for those in need in the Stellenbosch community. All hygiene and Covid-19 protocols are followed during the sandwich making. The Disaster Unit is given the sandwiches to distribute to those that are in need.

Care Packages for Victims of Abuse: Care Packages are used to restore a form of human dignity as well as love and care for victims of GBV.  Residents will be encouraged to donate items for care packages. Care packages will be individually and personally packaged for victims monthly and will be donated to L'Abrie de Dieu Safe House in Stellenbosch.

Nemesia Collaborations: This functions as a means for Nemesians to help Nemesians. If a student cannot afford a ticket to a house event etc, collaborations find a way for the student to participate in the event whether it be allowing a student to pay in installments or donating a ticket etc. Residents can also donate old textbooks, clothes and linen etc. that are distributed to residents who are in need.

Forgood Online Platform: All residents are informed of the ForGood platform and are encouraged to engage in online volunteering in a way that they see fit and most beneficial.
