What are we currently doing?

  1. Fairy Godmother Project: All dances, as well as our Women’s breakfast, are events that require payment, which limits the amount of Nerina’s able to join. As Nerina strives for an inclusive environment, I would love to use this project as a platform in which we can practice ubuntu towards each other. The financial assistance that the Fairy godmother fund will provide, will only be available to girls in Nerina. I do believe that it will give more girls the opportunity to attend events in res without having the financial stress in buying a ticket (or the full ticket price).  I also believe that it will address the issue of inclusivity. We want Nerina events to be well represented and for everyone to feel welcomed, without having limited finances as the divider. Thus, the Fairy godmother Project will allow our fellow Nerinas to participate in paying activities and lift the financial burden.
  2. Hanna Charity: We have a long-standing relationship with Hanna Charity. So, in the following year, I’m excited to further this relationship by continuing to serve the children at the Hanna foundation. The project overview will be determined before each visit, as per their needs. Painting, tutoring, playing sport, cooking, skills development and just social interaction will be part of our planning. Building relationships with the kids and sharing Nerina’s love for servanthood will be our main goal. We want the children of Hanna to feel loved and accepted.
  3. Jars of Hope: The initiative was prompted by the visible need in our communities. After a year of struggling in different spheres of life, we decided to address one of those areas in our country; hunger. Jars of Hope was held on an online platform, which made it difficult to promote participation, but gave us such a broader community to impact. Each of us had the opportunity to make a jar, filled with long-lasting and flavoursome staples, and share it with someone that truly needed it in our own communities.
  4. Kayamandi Garden Project: This is a collaboration with all residences on campus. We plan to develop a space where the locals can benefit for the long term from the established garden.
  5. Stellenbosch Safe House: Along with Heemstede and 2 other residences, we will be volunteering at the Stellenbosch Safe House during August 2021. Finer details of the project can be found In the Heemstede planning. They are also in need of maintenance to the building, so we hope to help where they need our hands or hearts. We would love to serve and invest our energy, time and love into the people in the safe house and truly show that we care.
  6. Sanitary Products Project: The project will be based on the principle of allowing residents to access sanitary products for free. The products will be left on a give and take basis by other residents. Residents will be asked to only take sanitary products if they need and can’t afford it. Boxes will be placed in each bathroom stall from which they can be used and into which new products can be placed.
