Silene's vision & mission:

Silene's vision is to bring people together to create a diverse and inclusive student experience. We empower our members to become well-rounded individuals whereby they embody the graduate attributes and carry out the values of Silene. Our mission is to work to establish an environment where facilitating courageous conversations and critical thinking is encouraged. We will foster a transformative and sustainable environment where we provide opportunities for our members to become value-driven and thought-driven individuals.

What are we currently doing?

Sanitary Pad Boxes: this is an initiative where the residence and the community will get a chance to create and design boxes where the members can donate sanitary pads. These boxes can either be placed around campus or at the residences in a secure place where the donations can be made safely, especially with social distancing. The boxes will then be donated to different schools around Stellenbosch to young girls. a lot of them struggle with the expense to purchase sanitary pads. This initiative aims at trying to help the young females of our community as a lot of them struggle with the expense to purchase sanitary pads. According to statistics 1/3 of the school girls don’t go to school when on their periods because they can’t afford sanitary pads.

What else can you do?

Community service has been an integral part of Stellenbosch University (SUN) for decades albeit in different forms and with shifting emphasis.
